Wade Urban Of Restoration Ministries : Spirit of Esau

8-5-12 Wade’s thought –

As I was sitting in church this morning, Holy Spirit spoke to me that the church was affected and infected with the spirit of Esau. Esau was the firstborn of Isaac’s twin boys. As the firstborn son, Esau was in line for the birthright as well as blessing of the firstborn from his father. Scripture records that Esau came in famished from a hunting excursion. Jacob had a bowl of bean soup ready and negotiated with Esau to sell his birthright for that bowl of beans. Thus Esau despised his birthright.

Today, most of the body of Christ in the U.S. has little or no regard for its birthright to Holy Spirit. Gal.3:13-14 explains that Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law having become a curse for us that the blessing of Abraham might come unto the Gentiles through Christ Jesus and that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Our life in Holy Spirit is the sum and total of the Finished Work of Jesus Christ. Yet, Holy Spirit is summarily dismissed by many in the church today. They teach that Holy Spirit’s operations and abilities no longer are valid or even necessary in the church; that Holy Spirit somehow lost His ability to speak and act and went into hiding with the first apostles. I guess these cessionists believe their eloquent teaching and preaching abilities and religious doctrines outweigh the “rhema” (now word) of Holy Spirit and that with our modern medical knowledge we no longer need His healing ability or miracle working power in our lives. An entire section of the church has been deluded by the spirit of Esau, despising their birthright to the present day ministry of Holy Spirit.

No. I’m not sorry to have hurt your tender religious feelings at all! I’m here to tell you the truth – Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever (Heb.13:8). Jesus said that those who believed on Him would do the same and even greater works than He (Jn.14:12). How can that be equivocated or gainsayed?

Our spiritual birthright is fullness of life in Holy Spirit. Anything less is settling for a lie; no matter where it came from! Perhaps our biggest spiritual battle is with the spirit of religion which ushers in the Esau spirit. The spirit of religion is the spirit of anti-Christ. To be anti-Christ is not just to be against Christ; but to be over and against Him; to be a substitute for Christ – the anointing of Holy Spirit. This means that men have substituted rules and regulations for the ministry of Holy Spirit in the church. We are no longer under the law (ten commandments) which were given so that men would be convicted of sin and recognize their need for a Savior. We are under a new law of love given by Holy Spirit and written on our hearts, not on tablets of stone.

It very well may be that the Lord is not nearly as impressed with the correctness of our doctrinal theology as He is with our ability to allow Him to demonstrate His love through us by Holy Spirit. Just maybe what we need are more “doers” of His word. That will only happen as we cooperate with Holy Spirit and begin to do the same and greater works Jesus promised we who believe in Him would do…
