HERE'S the STORY
A Springhill, LA Wal-Mart was ransacked on Saturday night after a processing “glitch” allowed customers on Welfare to make unlimited purchases using their food stamps, reports The Blaze!
One witness to the food stamp shopping spree described the incident saying, “It looked like a tornado came through!”
Springhill Police Chief, Will Lynd, said the incident was, “Worse than any Black Friday.”
After two hours, balances started to show up on Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards.
The crowd of welfare shoppers promptly abandoned their full carts and ran for the doors instead of making purchases in-line with preset spending limits.
Neither Wal-Mart corporate , nor the federal government, is saying who is ultimately responsible for covering the cost of yesterday’s irresponsible and fraudulent purchases.
Wal-Mart spokespeople did say store mangers knew about the temporary glitch and still authorized acceptance of the EBT cards in order to enable needy people to still buy food.
Non-welfare customers, Stan and Judy Garcia said the incident boiled down to simple thievery. He said, “That’s plain theft, that’s stealing that’s all I got to say about it.”
