Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world. 1 John 4:1SO, HOW do you or I test those who claim to speak by the SPIRIT? More important, how do you and I test what things we are hearing in the spirit if it BE THE SPIRIT? We are instructed to test.
Here's how (at least in my understanding, you may have other ways)
- Does it fully line up with the written word of God? In other words, if the written word passed down were a screen, does the whole word pass thru it unhindered?
- Does it manifest peace? The peace of God reigning as an umpire is always a good indicator. Not every word will, but it shouldn't have the spiritual equivalent of fingernails scraping across a blackboard.
- Will your faith, destiny, walk, vision or other things in your life be built up by this word? Edification. There is a place to tear down in the prophetic but by the tearing down freedom comes.
- Can you receive the word with joy? Several times when a prophet speaks in the Bible that word brings joy.
- Does it cause you to move from where you are to a higher place in God?
- Is this word a change agent for better, even if it's correction?
There may be others, but these are tests that should be applied. Life and Death are in the power of the tongue and as a prophet I am triply aware of that truth.
