Proverbs 13 New Living Translation (NLT) Abridged by Gene
2 Wise words will win you a good meal, but treacherous people have an appetite for violence. 3 Those who control their tongue will have a long life; opening your mouth can ruin everything. 4 Lazy people want much but get little, but those who work hard will prosper. 5 The godly hate lies; the wicked cause shame and disgrace. 6 Godliness guards the path of the blameless, but the evil are misled by sin. 7 Some who are poor pretend to be rich; others who are rich pretend to be poor. 9 The life of the godly is full of light and joy, but the light of the wicked will be snuffed out. 11 Wealth from get-rich-quick schemes quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows over time. 12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life. 13 People who despise advice are asking for trouble; those who respect a command will succeed. 14 The instruction of the wise is like a life-giving fountain; those who accept it avoid the snares of death. 15 A person with good sense is respected; a treacherous person is headed for destruction. 16 Wise people think before they act; fools don’t—and even brag about their foolishness. 17 An unreliable messenger stumbles into trouble, but a reliable messenger brings healing. 18 If you ignore criticism, you will end in poverty and disgrace; if you accept correction, you will be honored. 19 It is pleasant to see dreams come true, but fools refuse to turn from evil to attain them. 20 Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble. 21 Trouble chases sinners, while blessings reward the righteous. 23 A poor person’s farm may produce much food, but injustice sweeps it all away. 24 Those who spare the rod of discipline hate their children. Those who love their children care enough to discipline them.
25 The godly eat to their hearts’ content, but the belly of the wicked goes hungry.
This much I can promise you, about half of all Americans who vote in November's election are going to be tragically disappointed. They have set themselves up for it. Everything they know and feel says this will be a great victory. They parse every news feed and program. They are living in a bubble. They have their bias confirmed. SEE they say. SEE.. my candidate is going to win.
Here's the truth... half of you will face a hard time after the election is over. You need to hear the word of the Lord for yourself. It's time to prepare for disappointment. Read what the word of the Lord says:
God has a plan, he is using these things to accomplish his purpose.
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens
are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts
higher than your thoughts.” –Isaiah 55:8-9
Even as you feel abandoned and upset.. .God is NEAR to you.
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed
in spirit. -Psalm 34:18
Learn to grieve then learn to cope. It's hard but there is an end to the pain...
Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the
morning. -Psalm 30:5
You may have a burden you weren't meant to carry. Trusting in a person is a curse. You won't fall.
Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you.
He will not permit the godly to slip and fall. -Psalm 55:22
There is a peace that passes your ability to understand. Find it and harness it. It will guard your heart
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.
Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience
God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard
your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. -Philippians 4:6-7
As you grieve, do so in privately. It's good to allow the pain to be laid on HIM. Others can't help.
But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind
you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything,
will reward you. -Matthew 6:6
Waiting takes courage. Yet it means your patience is rewarded.
Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes,
wait patiently for the Lord. -Psalms 27:14
Even this day can be rejoiced in.. even as disappointing as it is.
This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be
glad in it. -Psalm 118:24
Thank God for EVERYTHING.. that's hard... but try.
Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always
giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ. Ephesians 5:19b-20
Don't be worn out by grief and pain. Trust God for better.
Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is
the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or
weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to
the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired,
and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the Lord will
find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and
not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. -Isaiah 40:28-31
Even if hope is deferred, even if your candidate loses or wins.. it must not cause you to grieve without God. Rest in HIM alone.
12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing
fulfilled is a tree of life. Proverbs 13:12
I still won't tell you how it will all come out. Consider, for some it will be horrid news and for others a confirmation that will produce triumphalism unhealthy. Rest in this.. Father knows and he is revealing to his prophets. Some are not prophets... some are promoters. Just rest..
