This is an old adage from the 1600s. The idea was that if you were in possession of something, you owned it. It is still a considered legal tenet in much of modern law. It has been abused by squatters. It has been used to exert authority over things that people should not have such authority over.
I was impressed this morning to address this in regard to spiritual things.
When you BELONG to the Father, when Jesus lives in your heart, when the Holy Spirit indwells you in fullness you are in His possession and therefore the law does not apply to you. The law is written on your heart and you instinctively obey. A good place to be.
Possession is 9/10ths of the Law
Yet there is an equal and opposite effect. In churches today the same inverse idea applies. Possession becomes the law and legalism is the result. MY Church, MY ministry, MY team, MY worship leader, MY pew, MY place to sit, MY pulpit, MY members, MY rules, MY books, MY MY MY.
When that becomes the language you use, then the one who REALLY does own them all will allow you to founder until you recognize who really should have possession. Sure, many will give lip service to this.. "I know this isn't my church, it all belongs to God". But let something out of the ordinary take place and let's find out who Really thinks they own it. The hammer will fall and the anointing will stop. YOU then bring the anointing not from heaven. Skill and ability will carry you for a while. Some do, it's entertainment, it's production, it's a dog and pony show. Eventually it falls apart.
What God is looking for, seeking for, searching for is those who will worship HIM in HIS Spirit and HIS Truth. HE owns all that and we enter in to it, into HIS Glory.
IF you hear yourself even thinking or saying "MY" in what God called you to.. you are not giving possession where possession is rightful. 90% is all He needs.. He'll take care of the rest.
In that way.. this isn't even my word, my blog, my prophetic, it's HIS.
I know sometimes when these things come they are more for me but you get to tag along as Father speaks quietly to me.. and He just did.

Rev 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
