It has been hard to put into words what I sense spiritually about why Katrina became such a disaster. What happened? It certainly was not exceptionally worse than many other disasters. Floods happen all the time. A few years ago Cedar Rapids was under water. There were floods all up and down the Mississippi River then. Huge areas and towns were completely submerged.
Tornadoes happen and wipe out whole communities as happened a few years ago in Kansas. Yet people in those areas bounced back in spite of the difficulty. WHY?
Death and destruction, often called acts of God, occur around the world.
There was an earthquake in Haiti you recall. Hundreds of thousands died.
One much much worse in Chile a month later. A thousand died.
What made the difference? Cities and states go thru economic downturns and difficulty with various successes and failures. Some like California and Illinois collapse under the pressure. Others like Nebraska and Texas not. Why?
I have been wondering. Sure I could blame politics. Leadership. Democrats. Republicans. Greedy Capitalists. Corrupt Governments. I could blame a lot of people.
The truth is I don't know who to blame. I sense I should blame the ones who build the hot house.
I got a Holy Ghost Download this morning regarding the hot house.
If in the spring early you plant seeds of plants and leave them in the hot house to grow they will prosper. They will get big. They will look healthy. A little seems to be good so leave them in longer. They seem to be doing so well.
But the hot house has problems. The bigger the plant gets in a hot house the more care and water it needs. It needs fungicides to keep the diseases off. The plants are subject to sudden invasions of voracious pests.
Worse if you take that lush green growing plant out of the house much later suddenly and subject it to the harsh sun, wind, rain storm, cold, heat and difficulty without a careful period of hardening off, the plant will die. It won't cope with the change. You were really cruel to the plant in doing this. The protection you gave killed it.
The same kind of plant from the same seed lot if grown very briefly in the hot house and quickly moved into the elements to fend for itself with a little protection will survive and prosper. It will become hardened. It might not grow quite as fast. It might look a little shop worn. But when the wind and storm come it will stand. When heat or cold descend it will prosper. In a funny way the more the plant is fussed over the worse it will get. It needs to become hardened in to survive and prosper. In fact the hot house plant will seldom bear much fruit. The hardened plant will do fine.
Those in Haiti, Many in Chicago, LA and many who suffered in Katrina had been sheltered from the storm. Didn't have to develop hardening off. When catastrophe came there was no ability to bounce back. They looked to the hot house builder to protect them. But the house was gone.
It's not about better or worse people. They all came from the same seed lot. It's about the environment they grew up in. Hardening or not. Self sufficient or dependant. Enduring or failing under pressure. Such was a sad story I saw in Chicagoland, people looking for free gimmes as a result of the Flood. HOT HOUSE PEOPLE.
Paul spoke of this:
We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. Romans 5:3Many people who are looking to the hot house builders to protect and rescue them really should thank God for their problems, rejoice in them and look to the future with greater endurance. Hardening off.
We are doing evil when we rescue people who are in the hardening off process even to the eating of pea pods in the pig pen before we should. I was rebuked for this by a prophet years ago and now I pass it along. It's not hard hearted to let life's difficulties harden people up for the future.
